About the Artist

Wen-Shu Lee Wu, originally an interior designer in Taiwan, has been painting in Williamsburg, Virginia since 1984, when she and her husband immigrated to the U.S. with their two young daughters.

Studying with Paul Helfrich and Barclay Sheaks, she has cultivated a unique abstract and semi-abstract style. Her works are often inspired by forms, lines, and textures found in natural objects, such as rocks, leaves, shells, and flowers. She enjoys working in the abstract style not only for the compositional freedom but also for the unlimited possibilities in the creative process itself. In the same way, she would like viewers of her work to enjoy the freedom of their unique interpretations.

In recent years, Wu has expanded her creativity and design skills to include jewelry making. Her beadwork is patterned as well as free form, often resulting in unique creations reminiscent of her abstract paintings.

Wu has won awards for her paintings at the College of William and Mary and This Century Gallery in Williamsburg. Recently she won honorable mention for her jewelry in the "Best of Virginia Artists & Artisans 2005" juried book competition.

She lives with her husband, a physicist, and their third daughter.

The original paintings of Wen-Shu Wu featured on this website are being displayed in a solo exhibit at the Trellis Restaurant and Gallery in Williamsburg, Virginia from September 20 through December 10, 2005.

"有關於這位 Wen-Shu Lee Wu 李文淑 的藝術家" : (傳記)

李文淑 Wen-Shu Lee Wu 在台灣原來是一位室內設計師，自1984年以來，她和她的先生帶著他們的兩個年幼女兒移居到美國的維吉尼亞，在 Williamsburg 就開始繪畫了。

(註 : 文淑 Wen-Shu 和她先生夫妻倆就是 石頭ㄚm ~"我"的大嫂和大哥)

文淑 研習有關"Paul Helfrich and Barclay Sheaks"，培養了獨特的抽象和semi-abstract 的風格。
她工作取得的靈感來自於經常被發現在自然物裡的形狀、線條、結構(紋理)中，譬如是岩石、葉子、花類.....。
她喜歡工作於抽象的風格，不僅是創作的自由而且為了無約束的潛在價值在創造性的過程中。

(在這裡，我特別強調文淑的畫風，絕對獨特，能讓欣賞者賞心悅目，視覺宜人，尤其她能敏感性從大自然中的自然物裡，藉其形式、線條、結構中，超然地體會自然物內異度空間的生命元素；所呈現不再是物體原先的固定風貌，而是屬於"文淑觀感"所剝離出主體的生命元素，是最原始的自然與抽象。色彩的獨特往往令人陷入迷離的彩色國度裡，迷惑或切實中無法捉摸，視覺上的觸動是必然的。
這是我對文淑的畫風做粗淺的認識與感覺，並不能完全代表她個人確實的表達。~ 石頭ㄚm)

近年來，文淑 擴展她的創造力和構思技能，包括了首飾創作。她的珠飾細工所組成的圖案，不但是自由形式而且經常引發獨特的創作品，而使人聯想她的抽象繪畫。

文淑為她的繪畫在"威廉和瑪莉學院"和在 Williamsburg "本世紀美術館"而獲獎。最近她又贏得榮譽提名表揚，是因為她的首飾在"維吉尼亞藝術家 & 工匠2005年"的juried名冊中角逐。

她和她的丈夫，物理學家，和他們的三個女兒一起生活。
